On Wednesday 28th November, young people attended an awareness workshop on the consumption of Shisha organised by the Yemeni Youth Forum and the Yousef project (a newly established group of young Muslims that seek to represent, advocate and lobby on behalf of young Muslim people in Sandwell).
Through consultation with community the two youth groups identified that the consumption of Shisha has become a real concern amongst young people within the wider community. As a result they organised a debate session to raise awareness on the Islamic view on consuming Shisha, also to provide the young people with an opportunity to have their questions and concerns answered by an Islamic scholar.
Ahmed Alkash, YCA Youth Development Officer commented “The event was a great success and I was pleased to see nearly 100 young people in attendance. I was amazed by the quality of the young speakers on the debating panel. Speaking with the young people after the event it is evident that this event will have a long-lasting impact on the young people in attendance. The Yemeni Youth Forum and Yousef Project should be extremely proud of themselves. I am really pleased that YCA could play a part in that.”
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Afrah Muflihi and Syeda Nessa for all their efforts and continuous support.
